Day one of ILYO 2026

The start of ILYO is always a special occasion at the Szczecin Philharmonic. After the summer break, its corridors, rehearsal rooms and, above all, the Symphony Hall are filled with music once again.

The first day of the 14th edition of ILYO began with a rehearsal conducted by Przemysław Neumann – General and Artistic Director of the Szczecin Philharmonic and Principal Conductor of the International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra.

In the afternoon, the young musicians began their sectional sessions with an outstanding team of tutors. The violin section is led by Sulamita Ślubowska, concertmaster of NOSPR, and Karolina Hyla-Wybraniec, concertmaster of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. The viola section is led by Sarina Zickgraf of Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the cello section by Adam Krzeszowiec of NOSPR in Katowice, and the double bass section by Uxía Martinez Botana of Oxford Philharmonic.

Arek Adamczyk of the Academy of Music in Poznań is working with the woodwind section, while the brass section is led by Maciej Baranowski of the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt. Juliusz Wesołowski of the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra is working with the harpists, while the percussion section is led by Brian Barker of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra.

The sectional sessions will continue for two days. On Wednesday, the young musicians will be joined by this year’s ILYO soloist – young violinist Zofia Anna Olesik.

Two ILYO 2026 concerts are just around the corner

Meanwhile, a reminder: the ILYO concerts are fast approaching! Only a limited number of tickets remain for both the concert at the Szczecin Philharmonic on September 4 and the performance at NOSPR in Katowice on September 6.
