Hubert Salwarowski

Graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Katowice (2002) in the class of prof. Andrzej Jasiński. He perfected his skills at international piano courses in Duszniki – Zdrój (T. Szebanowa), Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena – Italy (P. Badura-Skoda, M. Campanella, and J. Achucarro), Buckow and Puigcerda (O. Yablonskaya). He is a graduate of The Juilliard School of Music in New York, where, as a scholarship holder of the school, he studied for 2 years in the masterclass of prof. Oxana Yablonska (postgraduate studies) and received his diploma in May 2004. Then – as a "Young Poland" scholarship holder of the Ministry of Culture – he continued his studies at the Summer Academy of Higher Piano Studies in Merano (Italy) under the supervision of prof. Dr. Lew Natochenny.

He is a laureate of leading awards in national and international competitions, including: 1st prize at the International Piano Competition in Puigcerda – 2003, 1st prize at the International Piano Competition for piano with orchestra in Cantu (Italy) – 2001, laureate of the Estrada Młodych at the Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk – 1999 and 1st prize at the Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona – 1995.

He made his debut as a soloist with an orchestra at the age of 17 and since then has been cooperating with leading orchestras in Poland and abroad. He performed, among others, at the Warsaw Philharmonic, with the Polish National Radio Orchestra, as well as in the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Egypt, Belgium, Austria, Germany, Taiwan, and the USA, receiving enthusiastic reviews from critics. He records for Radio and Television.

He was a scholarship holder of the Fryderyk Chopin Society, the National Children's Fund, the Minister of Culture and Art (four times), and the President of Katowice.

In February 2002, he toured with the Junge Philharmonie Koln, giving 12 concerts, including in the philharmonics in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Munich, presenting the 2nd Piano Concerto by S. Rachmaninov. In January 2002, he recorded the 3rd Concerto in C major by S. Prokofiev with the Szczecin Philharmonic, and with the National Symphony Orchestra of the Polish Radio – the 1st Piano Concerto by J. Brahms (April 2002), which resulted in the release of a CD by DUX label. The orchestras were conducted by Jerzy Salwarowski. The album received excellent reviews and a nomination for the "Fryderyk" award 2003 – the most prestigious Polish music award.

In 2004, he was nominated three times for the "Paszport Polityki" award for his achievements, and was also honored with a concert at the Warsaw Philharmonic. The 2003/2004 concert season resulted in the recording of a second album (this time a solo one) with music by J. Brahms (III Sonata, Op. 5 and 4 Ballades, Op. 10) for the DUX label.

In parallel with his lively concert activity, in September 2005 he began teaching at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and at the Music High School in Katowice.

In 2007, he began artistic cooperation with cellist Michał Dmochowski, which resulted in participation in concerts at festivals in Spain and in courses led by prof. Natalia Szachowska. In July 2008 he won the competition for the position of assistant at the Piano Department at the Academy of Music in Katowice.

He is currently a doctoral assistant at the Department and performs as a soloist and chamber musician. He recently performed with the Sinfonia Juventus orchestra at the Polish History Museum in Warsaw, as well as with orchestras in Lublin and Zamość, presenting a diverse repertoire.
