NOSPR concert hall in Katowice (Poland)
Home of one of the most important symphony orchestras in Poland and Europe – the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR) led by Marin Alsop herself, and one of the architectural icons of the Silesian capital – Katowice. The International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra is set to perform yet again on one of the most prestigious stages on the continent.
NOSPR is not only a remarkable orchestra but also an entire thriving cultural institution. The monumental brick building hides a concert hall with 1800 seats. Despite being one of the largest concert halls in the country, this amazing venue has a charming atmosphere, while the auditorium surrounds the stage from all sides, shortening the distance between the musicians and the public.
The acoustics of the NOSPR hall are supervised by master Yasuhisa Toyota from Nagata Acoustics, who is responsible for the acoustics of world-renowned concert halls. The perfect acoustics makes it possible to capture each note coming from the stage and each rustle from the viewers. The venue’s outstanding qualities are widely recognised by audiences, artists and the music community, as evidenced by the fact that the NOSPR has been admitted into the ECHO network of the most prestigious concert halls in Europe.
The amazing building is home of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra – an ensemble whose history can be traced back to 1935. Over the following decades, the orchestra gradually strengthened its international reputation, performing in the world’s most important concert halls and collaborating with the greatest artists of our time, including Leonard Bernstein, Martha Argerich, Plácido Domingo and Arthur Rubinstein. The orchestra has premiered works by Witold Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki and Krzysztof Penderecki, among others, and NOSPR albums have been released by prestigious labels. Today, the orchestra’s rich musical traditions are cultivated under the artistic direction of Marin Alsop, with Adam Balas serving as its Director.
