Two Concerts Ahead for International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra
The International Lutosławski Youth Orchestra is entering an intense period of preparation for its two grand finale concerts, marking the culmination of this year’s project. In 2025, ILYO will perform on 22 August in the Golden Hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic-the project’s main organizer-and on 24 August in the legendary Gewandhaus concert hall in Leipzig. Rehearsals for both concerts have been underway since Monday, and on Wednesday the orchestra was joined by the outstanding soloist of the 13th edition of the project, Aleksandra Świgut.
During the first two days, the young musicians of ILYO worked in instrumental sections under the guidance of seasoned players from leading European orchestras. At the same time, hours of tutti rehearsals-bringing together the entire ensemble-were held. Under the baton of Maestro Przemysław Neumann, the orchestra has been polishing all three works featured in this year’s concert program.

Wednesday evening’s rehearsal marked a special moment: for the first time, the piano took its place on stage, with acclaimed and award-winning Polish pianist Aleksandra Świgut at the keyboard. Together with ILYO and Maestro Neumann, she will perform Witold Maliszewski’s rarely played Kuyavian Fantasy for piano and orchestra-a work not recorded since the 1950s, making the performance a true rediscovery for audiences. The program will also include Witold Lutosławski’s Little Suite, honoring the orchestra’s patron, and Rachmaninoff’s celebrated Symphonic Dances.
