A living legend of American soul-jazz – Brian Jackson, an outstanding vocalist and composer best known for his collaboration with Gil Scott-Heron – will perform in the Symphony Hall together with one of the most intriguing representatives of young Polish jazz: the band EABS!
For the young musicians from Wrocław, this project is the fulfillment of a dream and yet another confirmation that the path they have chosen is the right one. For Jackson, it will be another encounter with the Polish audience and a unique addition to his already spectacular career.
Brian Jackson wrote his name in gold in the history of soul in 1971, when the album Pieces of a Man by the Scott-Heron-Jackson duo was released. The group’s work set a new standard in jazz at the time. It contributed to the artistic immortality of both musicians. Jackson’s calm, deeply atmospheric compositions, dominated by piano and flute parts, provided the perfect background for Scott-Heron’s poetry.
After the duo’s breakup, Jackson remained an active musician, collaborating with a wide range of acclaimed artists – Will Downing, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Kool & the Gang among them. In 2021, Jackson returned to the spotlight with a release as part of the phenomenal Jazz is Dead series, curated by Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest) and multi-instrumentalist Adrian Younge. His most recent album, Of Corners & Bridges, was released in 2025 to warm acclaim.
During the concert, Jackson’s works from the 1970s and 1980s will be performed in new arrangements by EABS. There will be no shortage of universal and socially engaged lyrics that, despite the passage of time, remain as relevant as ever – all accompanied by one of the most fascinating jazz instrumental projects in this part of Europe.
